NY Children’s Toy Examiner: myWallaby Receives “5 out of 5 stars”

March 18, 2010 by Chief Wallabies · Leave a Comment

We are very happy to post this wonderful review we received by Linda Rocco, the Children’s Toy Examiner for NY Examiner.com. Besides receiving a whopping 5 out 5 stars, Linda had these wonderful things to say about the Agile Bag:

It’s myWallaby and I say HOORAY! This is such a clever item that I’m actually giddy over it.

At first I thought I misunderstood the item because it was clearly a purse/handbag. After a few minutes I realized that under the panel with the wallaby was a flap of material that can be pulled down that becomes the space to fit the doll’s lower body.

Actually, in addition to the enclosed doll compartment, the bag also has its signature “pouch,” a handy zipper enclosed pocket on the front that is in the shape of a Wallaby’s stomach. You can use it as a purse even when you’re using it as a doll carrier because the front “pouch” will hold some of baby’s essentials – or your child’s!

There is so much detail and care taken in the production of these bags that I’m sure that any special little girl in your life would be wowed by the lovely and practical myWallaby!

Meet Sherry Pitko, the Village Bearsmith!

January 13, 2010 by Chief Wallabies · Leave a Comment

IMG_1785The myWallaby Bloggy isn’t all about myWallaby. Sometimes, we find something (or someone) out there that we would like to blog about. In this case, we would like to share with you the talents of someone we became aware of when my parents recently visited us in NYC.

My parents always like to surprise us with gifts when they visit, and this time was no different. One of the gifts they brought with them was a gift for our daughter, a stuffed Kangaroo called Kanga (a famous cousin of a Wallaby) complete with miniature Joey that sits in its pouch (see picture to the left). Besides the symbolism associated with our company, the gift was also special in that it was made for my sister and I by our Aunt who knew we loved (and still do) the Winnie the Pooh story. My mom told me that after almost forty years in storage, Kanga had lost its original shape and was in need of some tender loving care – care in the form of some stuffing, a bit of sewing and a little tuck here and there.

Enter the Village Bearsmith! My parents heard of the Village Bearsmith, a.k.a. Sherry Pitko, around their cottage in Michigan. Sherry is known in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for her skills in restoring stuffed animals and dolls. Besides stuffed animal / doll restoration, Sherry also makes replicas of old teddy bears and provides a very unique service, called Bear my Memories (see below for a description of each).

If you are interested in finding out more about Sherry’s services, she doesn’t have a website yet, but she can be reached via email at spitko@lighthouse.net. I’m sure Sherry would love to hear from you!

What Sherry offers:

Bear My Memories

Sherry is an award

winning bear artist that specializes in preserving memories of loved ones and special events through incorporation of personal or heirloom garments. These beautiful heirloom quality teddy bears

can be made from a treasured mink stole, mink stroller, mink coat or other heirloom furs. Rather than having these items tucked away…the memory stays alive by having one of these beautiful teddy bears made of your cherished item tucked in the corner or sat on your favorite chair. Prices and sizes vary. (Typically starts at $195- and up)

Old Friends

Sherry also offers replicas of early 1900’s teddy bears at a fraction of the antique bear price.  Made from quality mohair, cotter pin jointed, wool paw pads, and German glass eyes. These are beautiful heirloom quality. Made just as the old bears, but stuffed with polyfill for preservation purposes. She even offers custom orders. Prices and sizes vary. (typically starts at $49.95- and up)

Bear Hospital

Finally, and the way we found Sherry, she also offers repairs and restorations for old and new teddy bears and other stuffed friends. Prices vary on the amount of work. Feel free to email her for a quote.

Below are some pictures of one of Sherry’s Bear My Memories stuffed animals. Look at the skill and craftsmanship! Good luck Sherry from all of us at myWallaby!

Playthings – Toy of the Week

January 7, 2010 by Chief Wallabies · Leave a Comment

playthingsEric and I just got back from a much needed two week holiday and we are looking forward to an exciting year for myWallaby. To start things off on the right note, myWallaby was just chosen for PlaythingsToy of the Week feature. Thanks Playthings! We are very honored to have been chosen for this distinction by this highly regarded trade publication. Especially since we are focusing our attention in 2010 on getting the Agile Bag into retail stores.

A little background information on this prestigious publication…

Playthings, founded in 1903, is the leading U.S. trade magazine covering the children’s toy industry. We have a rich and vivid tradition of editorial coverage:

* We were the magazine of record when ‘Teddy’ bears became popular with American children during the first years of the 20th century.
* We were there, in 1945, to report on the first and only time in the 96-year history of the American International Toy Fair that the event was canceled, due to World War II
* We reported in depth about a ‘fashion doll’ introduced on March 9, 1959, named ‘Barbie.’

Our history and editorial expertise makes us particularly well-equipped to understand the dynamic and mercurial world of modern toys.

Google Search Ranking!

December 12, 2009 by Chief Wallabies · Leave a Comment

From time to time, Eric and I run searches on Google and other search engines with various key words to see how far down the list myWallaby shows up. When we first launched the product in late July, needless to say, myWallaby didn’t even show up in the search results. However, recently, given the press that Agile Bag has generated, myWallaby has climbed the search results and now, drum roll please…, it is listed in the top four Google results when searching for “doll carrier.” We have always felt that those key words best represent our product and when we saw our company listed that high on the list, we were ecstatic!

See below for a snapshot of our results –

Babble’s Droolicious Posts a Nice Review on myWallaby

December 4, 2009 by Chief Wallabies · Leave a Comment

drooliciousWe just had a nice review of the myWallaby bag posted on Babble’s droolicious! We really love that name – so creative! Besides offering a lot of great advice for parents, Babble and droolicious (there I go saying it again) are well known for helping parents track down stylish and fun products. Thanks Lisa Estall!

“Agile Doll Carrier is the cutest thing I’ve seen in awhile. Kids can use this as a purse as well as carry around their dolls. Created by a husband and wife team from New York, they saw a need for this product when they saw little girls holding onto their dolls and teddy bears by hand or in their backpacks.”
